Anchor Buoy

Advertisements

Usually, it is a small buoy, painted a distinctive color, attached to an anchor by a light line (wire / rope) and used to indicate the location of the anchor on the bottom. One end of the line is attached to the anchor by its wire pendant and the other end is tied to the ring of the buoy . The length of the pendant should preferably be equal to one and a half to two times the maximum depth of water at the anchorage so that the buoy is not swamped in a strong current and can not be seen. The anchor buoy is streamed just before the anchor is let go and taken back on board when is being heaved in.
Purpose
1- To indicate the position of the own ship anchor
2- Indication for other vessels
3- In case of emergency to leave the anchor and proceed to
sea
